Ardyn

One of the Three Ladies. As a god of the hearth, Ardyn is often associated with Tald, the god of harvest and feasting.

Domain

God of home and hearth. She is associated with the construction of sturdy houses and also with mice (but not rats).

Symbol

There are no known churches or cults of Ardyn.

However, it is not uncommon for villagers to ask for Ardyn's blessing at the completion of house construction. During these ceremonies, a local political or social leader will don an embroidered green stole when giving the prayer.

Appearance

Ardyn is mostly known as a young, pregnant woman, but sometimes appears in the form of an older maternal figure.

Worship

As one of the Three Ladies, along with Yalyin and Tamoryn, Ardyn is often invoked over family dinners or during times of family crisis. During times of plenty, or at family celebrations, a portion of the meal is often set aside in a corner of the home's main room for mice, who are seen as Ardyn's eyes and ears within the household. "Mother Ardyn's mice are watching!" is a rebuke often given to unruly children.

Older women who have no children, regardless of whether through choice, biology or tragedy, will sometimes be called upon by Ardyn to serve their communities. These women become local matchmakers, show up unexpectedly to assist new mothers with household chores, bring gifts to families in need, and generally, genuinely serve the families of their village; in return they are fed and clothed by those in the village who can afford it.

Additionally, Ardyn reveals to women who are called to service the technique of making special candles that light with a word and cannot be extinguished by non-magical wind. These candles are sold to fundraise for those in need in the village.
